Scripture Focus
“And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” – Philippians 1:6 (ESV)
Devotional Thought
Paul’s confidence in the Philippians’ salvation was not based on their ability, wisdom, or worth—it was anchored in the character and faithfulness of God. Salvation begins with Him, continues with Him, and will be completed by Him.
Left to ourselves, we choose sin and rebellion, but God, in His mercy, awakens and quickens us. This means our hope for perseverance does not rest on fragile human faithfulness but on the unstoppable work of the Lord.
Notice carefully: He began a good work. Salvation is not a one-time event but a lifelong process. It has a beginning (when God saves us), but it does not have an earthly end. The “good work” continues until the day of Christ Jesus—the day when He returns for His bride, and the work of salvation is fully realized in glorification.
Paul reminds us that salvation is not a “vaccination” against judgment—it’s a transformation into Christlikeness. We are not being saved to be the best version of ourselves, but to be conformed to the image of Jesus. This is why sanctification must be ongoing. God is not finished with you yet—and He will not stop until you are like Christ.
Reflection Questions
1. Where is your confidence for salvation placed—on your efforts or on the God who began the work?
2. Do you see salvation as a past event, or as a present, ongoing process? How does this affect your daily walk with Christ?
3. In what ways do you sense God’s ongoing work of sanctification in your life right now?
4. How does knowing that God will complete His work in you change the way you face struggles, temptations, or doubts?
5. Are you eagerly awaiting “the day of Christ Jesus,” when His work will be perfected in you?
Closing Prayer
Father, I thank You that my salvation is Your work from beginning to end. Forgive me when I place my confidence in myself instead of in You. Teach me to rest in the assurance that You will complete what You have started. Continue shaping me into the image of Christ day by day, and help me live with hope and perseverance as I wait for the day when Your work is perfected in me. Keep my heart fixed on Jesus, and let my life bring glory to You until the day I see You face to face. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
