Devotional Thought
If you are paying attention to the world around you, it is difficult not to feel troubled at times. We see violence celebrated, immorality defended, truth rejected, and confusion spreading everywhere. Good judgment seems increasingly rare. Right and wrong are often treated as if they are matters of personal opinion instead of objective reality. Many people look at the moral decay around us and ask, “How did we get here?”

Solomon gives us a direct answer in Proverbs 28:5.

“Evil men do not understand justice.”

The problem is not simply that people occasionally do evil things. The deeper issue is that many no longer even recognize evil for what it is. Solomon says evil people cannot understand justice. Their moral compass is broken. They either blur the lines between right and wrong or completely reverse them altogether.

This is exactly what Isaiah warned about when he declared, “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil” (Isaiah 5:20). We live in a culture increasingly shaped by moral relativism—the belief that truth changes according to personal preference, feelings, or circumstances. Instead of asking, “Is this right before God?” many ask only, “Does this feel right to me?”

But when humanity becomes detached from its Creator, moral confusion is always the result.

God created mankind in His image, and He placed a conscience within every human being. Historically, that conscience was strengthened and guided through faithful families, biblical teaching, and churches that boldly proclaimed truth. Yet many have abandoned those foundations. Families no longer reinforce biblical morality, and many churches have compromised truth in order to fit comfortably within the culture.

The result is a society drifting further into spiritual blindness.

Yet Proverbs 28:5 does not only diagnose the problem—it gives the solution.

“Those who seek the Lord understand it completely.”

When people genuinely seek God, their spiritual vision begins to clear. God is not hiding Himself. He reveals truth to those who humble themselves before Him. As we draw near to the Lord through His Word, prayer, repentance, and obedience, He reshapes our thinking and restores our understanding of right and wrong.

The cure for moral confusion is not found in politics, education, or cultural movements alone. The true solution is spiritual revival. People who seek the Lord begin to see clearly again because God Himself becomes the standard for truth, justice, mercy, and righteousness.

If we want to see change in our homes, churches, and nation, it must begin with people seeking the Lord once again.

Reflection Questions

  1. In what ways do you see moral confusion increasing in today’s culture?
  2. How does seeking the Lord shape your understanding of right and wrong?
  3. Are there areas in your life where culture has influenced your thinking more than Scripture?
  4. What practical steps can you take to seek the Lord more faithfully each day?

Closing Prayer
Lord, we live in a world filled with confusion, compromise, and moral blindness. Help me not to be shaped by the changing opinions of culture, but by Your unchanging truth. Open my eyes to understand justice, righteousness, and holiness according to Your Word. Draw my heart closer to You, and help me seek You daily with humility and faithfulness. Bring revival to our homes, our churches, and our nation as people turn back to You once again. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
