The Mystery of His Will Revealed

Scripture Focus

“Making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in Christ, things in heaven and things on earth in him.” -Ephesians 1:9–10 (ESV)

Devotional Thought

Paul writes that God “made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His kind intention… to sum up all things in Christ.” For ages this mystery was hidden, but now through Christ it has been revealed: God is bringing everything—heaven and earth, creation and redemption—under the lordship of Jesus.

This truth lifts our perspective. Salvation is deeply personal, but it is also cosmic. God’s plan is not only to forgive sinners but to restore everything broken by sin. The cross does more than rescue individuals; it inaugurates the renewal of all things. Christ is the center, the cornerstone, and the goal.

Often we live as if the world is fragmented—politics, culture, family, work, and church all pulling us in different directions. Yet Paul says that in Christ, all these pieces will one day be brought into perfect harmony. The “fullness of times” will reveal that Jesus is Lord of all, and every knee will bow before Him (Philippians 2:10–11).

This should anchor our hearts in hope. When we face uncertainty, chaos, or brokenness, we can remember that God’s plan is not unraveling—it is unfolding. And its end is sure: Christ glorified, His people redeemed, and all things made new.

Reflection Questions

1. What does it mean to you that God’s plan is bigger than your personal salvation—that He is reconciling all things in Christ?

2. Where do you see brokenness in your own life or in the world that you long for Christ to restore?

3. How can the certainty of God’s plan give you peace when life feels uncertain or chaotic?

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, Thank You for revealing the mystery of Your will in Christ. When the world feels divided and broken, remind me that You are working all things toward the day when Christ is exalted and all is made new. Give me faith to rest in Your plan and courage to live as one who belongs to Jesus, my Redeemer and King. Until that day of fullness, keep my eyes fixed on Christ, the One who holds all things together. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
