Scripture Focus
“But if I say, ‘I will not remember Him or speak anymore in His name,’ then in my heart it becomes like a burning fire shut up in my bones; and I am weary of holding it in, and I cannot endure it.” – Jeremiah 20:9
Devotional Thought
Jeremiah knew the weight of proclaiming God’s message. His words were not well received; they brought him mockery, reproach, and even danger. Yet he also knew he could not remain silent—the truth of God’s Word burned like fire within him.
The same tension exists for us today. The Gospel is good news, but it begins with hard truth: man is sinful, separated from God, and under judgment. Without this foundation, the “good news” of grace, forgiveness, and eternal life loses its meaning. Sadly, many messages today skip over sin and judgment in favor of comfort, blessing, and peace. While these are real fruits of salvation, they are not the entry point. To remove the reality of sin is to remove the very reason Christ came.
True love tells the whole truth. To share a partial gospel is to leave people in their sin. It may draw crowds, but it will not save souls. Like Jeremiah, we may be tempted to soften the message to avoid rejection, but God calls us to faithfulness, not popularity. The world does not need a sugar-coated gospel—it needs the true Gospel, for only the truth will set people free.
Reflection Questions
- When you think about sharing the Gospel, are you tempted to emphasize the blessings of salvation while avoiding the reality of sin and judgment? Why?
- How does Jeremiah’s struggle encourage you to remain faithful to proclaiming the full truth, even when it is unpopular?
- Who in your life needs to hear the truth of their need for repentance—and how can you lovingly share it with them?
- Do you believe the Gospel message burns within you like “fire in your bones”? If not, what might be quenching that fire?
Closing Prayer
Lord, thank You for entrusting me with the message of the Gospel. Forgive me for the times I have been silent or softened the truth out of fear of rejection. Give me the courage of Jeremiah, who could not hold back Your Word, even when it cost him dearly. Help me to proclaim both the reality of sin and the beauty of grace with love, clarity, and boldness. Let the fire of Your truth burn within me so that I cannot remain silent. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
