Scripture Focus
“And he came in the Spirit into the temple, and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the Law, he took him up in his arms and blessed God and said, “Lord, now you are letting your servant depart in peace, according to your word; for my eyes have seen your salvation that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel.” — Luke 2:27–32 (ESV)
Devotional Thought
Simeon’s glimpse of the Christ child was not a sudden moment—it was the culmination of a lifetime of waiting.
Scripture describes him as righteous and devout, a man who had anchored his hope in a promise God had whispered long ago. Year after year, he returned to the temple. Day after day, he lived with expectation. Simeon didn’t simply wait—he waited well. His patience was not passive; it was rooted in trust. He believed God would keep His word, even when nothing around him seemed to indicate that the fulfillment was near.
And then, on an ordinary day in the temple, everything changed.
Simeon was “in the Spirit”—sensitive, attentive, and responsive to God’s leading. Because his life was aligned with the Spirit, he recognized what countless others missed: the promised Messiah wrapped in simple cloth, carried in the arms of young parents. No halos. No royal procession. No outward signs of glory. Yet Simeon knew immediately: This is Him. This is the One.
Simeon’s story reminds us that those who wait on God rarely wait in vain. But it also teaches that the ability to recognize God’s work comes from walking with Him long before the moment arrives. A distracted heart can overlook Christ even when He is right in front of us. A Spirit-led heart recognizes Him instantly.
As we reflect on Christmas, may we learn from Simeon—
to wait patiently,
to live expectantly,
and to walk so closely with the Spirit that when Christ draws near, we see Him with clarity and joy.

Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the faithful example of Simeon, who waited patiently, walked closely with You, and recognized Christ the moment He came. Teach me to wait with the same trust and to live with the same Spirit-led expectancy. Remove the distractions that dull my heart, and open my eyes to see Jesus in every part of my life. Help me embrace His presence daily and rejoice in the salvation You have prepared for all people.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
