Scripture Focus
“He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.” – 2 Corinthians 5:5 (ESV)
Devotional Thought
God is not vague or uncertain when He speaks of our future. Paul reassures us that the promise of a heavenly dwelling is not just a wish or dream—it is guaranteed. And that guarantee is not a document or a contract, but the very presence of the Holy Spirit within us. The Spirit is God’s down payment, His deposit that guarantees He will finish what He has started.
Think of how a down payment works when buying a house. It’s a promise that more is coming. The Spirit works the same way in our lives. His presence is the evidence that God has already begun the work of transformation and will complete it in eternity. Romans 8:11 tells us that the same Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in us and will also give life to our mortal bodies. That means the Spirit’s power now is not just about comfort—it is a foretaste of resurrection.
When discouragement sets in and we feel weighed down by weakness, the Spirit reminds us of what is to come. When sin threatens to entangle us, the Spirit empowers us to resist. When doubt whispers that our future is uncertain, the Spirit assures us that God has prepared us for glory. We live with confidence not because of our strength but because God has sealed us with His Spirit.
