Scripture Focus
“Therefore stay awake—for you do not know when the master of the house will come, in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning—lest he come suddenly and find you asleep. And what I say to you I say to all: Stay awake.” — Mark 13:35–37 (ESV)
Devotional Thought
Jesus ends His teaching about the end times with one clear command: “Stay awake.” While many speculate about signs, timelines, and world events, Jesus simplifies the call for His followers—not to be obsessed with predicting His return, but to be ready for it. The point is not to decode prophecy, but to live faithfully in His presence every day.
To “stay awake” means to live spiritually alert, guarding our hearts from distraction and deceit. The enemy works subtly, lulling us to sleep with comfort, routine, and worldly pursuits. We may look alive outwardly—busy with religion, work, or pleasure—but inwardly drift from communion with God. Christ warns us not to let that happen. Readiness is not about constant fear, but constant fellowship.
The only way to remain ready is to continually seek the face of God. When we walk in the Spirit, feed daily on the Word, and keep our hearts sensitive to His voice, we will not be caught unaware. The Spirit of God guards our minds against deception and strengthens our resolve against sin. Staying awake, then, is less about anxious watching and more about faithful walking—living in step with the Spirit until the Master returns.
So, let your life be one of spiritual vigilance. Keep your lamp burning. Feed your soul on Scripture. Pray often. Live each day as though the Lord might come before nightfall.
He will return—and when He does, may He find us wide awake, watching, and walking faithfully with Him.

Closing Prayer
Lord Jesus, awaken my heart to Your presence. Keep me from the spiritual sleep of comfort and complacency. Teach me to walk in Your Spirit, to seek Your face daily, and to live ready for Your return. May I be found faithful when You come. Amen.
