📖 “The stone which the builders rejected, this became the chief corner stone … and he who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; but on whomever it falls, it will scatter him like dust.” – Matthew 21:42, 44
Devotional Thought
Jesus is unavoidable. He is the stone rejected by builders, yet chosen by God as the foundation of His kingdom. Every person must decide: will I build my life on Him, or stumble over Him in unbelief?
Falling on Christ in surrender may break us, but it is a holy breaking—the shattering of pride, self-reliance, and sin. In His hands, what is broken is rebuilt into something strong and enduring. But to resist Him, to reject Him, is to invite judgment. For those who refuse Christ, He becomes the crushing stone that exposes false foundations and scatters what seemed secure.
There is no neutral ground. Either He is our Cornerstone, or He will expose the emptiness of what we’ve built without Him. Even for believers, the call is to keep building carefully on the foundation of Christ (1 Corinthians 3:11). Are we constructing lives of obedience, love, and faith—or building with materials that won’t last?
To be broken before Him is painful, but it is also freeing. Brokenness before God always leads to wholeness. Better to fall on the Stone in humility than to be crushed by it in judgment.
Reflection Questions
1. Is Jesus the true foundation of my life, or am I trusting false supports?
2. Where do I need God to break me so He can rebuild me?
3. What am I building on Christ’s foundation—lasting fruit or temporary things?
Closing Prayer
Lord, I choose to fall on You in surrender rather than stumble in pride. Break me where I need breaking, and rebuild me on the foundation of Christ. May my life be strong, steady, and fruitful because it rests on You, the Cornerstone. Amen.
