Grace that Overflows

Scripture Focus

“And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work… while they long for you and pray for you, because of the surpassing grace of God upon you. Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift!” – 2 Corinthians 9:8, 14–15 (ESV)

Devotional Thought

Paul speaks of God’s grace as though it is almost tangible—something poured out, overflowing, filling up every need in our lives. He writes with such certainty because he believes what is true in the Spirit will be seen in reality. Faith receives grace as a present possession, not just a future promise.

When Paul encourages the Corinthians to give generously, he is reminding them that they don’t give from scarcity but from God’s endless supply. It’s the same principle we see in Malachi 3:10-11… God invites His people to trust Him, to test Him, and to see if He will not open the floodgates of blessing. Giving is not about loss; it’s about trusting that the One who owns everything will provide everything.

But Paul adds a heart-check: our attitude matters. Begrudging, reluctant giving closes the door to joy and the experience of God’s grace. Cheerful, expectant giving opens it wide. When you give with joy, it’s like God has already deposited the needed provision into your account—because in Christ, He truly has.

Reflection Questions

1. Do I give with reluctance or with joy, expecting God’s provision?

2. How might seeing grace as something real and active change the way I view generosity?

3. What is one area where I need to step out in faith and trust God to supply?

Closing Prayer

Father, thank You for the overflowing grace You promise to Your children. Teach me to give joyfully and expectantly, knowing that You have already supplied everything I need in Christ. May my life and my giving be an expression of gratitude for Your inexpressible gift. Amen.
