Scripture Focus
“Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.” – Jeremiah 6:16
Devotional Thought
We live in a time when skepticism is everywhere. Questions about God, Scripture, and the very person of Jesus swirl around us: Was Israel really led by God at Sinai? Was Jesus more than just a moral teacher? Did the miracles really happen? These doubts are not new—they echo the same serpent’s whisper heard in Eden: “Did God really say…?”
Jeremiah’s words call us back from the noise of uncertainty. At the crossroads of shifting cultural winds and endless speculation, God invites us to pause and look. The “ancient paths” are not outdated trails but timeless truths—God’s covenant promises, Christ’s finished work, and the apostles’ testimony. The good way is still the same: trust in the Lord, walk humbly, and follow His Word.
Choosing this path may feel countercultural. The world celebrates newness, novelty, and “progress,” often at the expense of truth. But the good way—the ancient way—leads to rest for our souls, grounding us in God’s unchanging character. Instead of being tossed about by every doubt or trend, we find stability in the One who is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8).
When we find ourselves at a crossroads, the decision is simple, though not always easy: Ask where the good way is, and walk in it.
Reflection Questions
1. How has contemporary skepticism or cultural “new paths” affected your own faith journey?
2. In what ways are you tempted to trade God’s timeless truth for more “modern” or “comfortable” ideas?
3. What practices (Scripture, prayer, community, worship) help you stay grounded in the ancient paths of God’s truth?
4. Where might God be calling you today to “stand, look, and ask” before you move forward?
Closing Prayer
Lord, at the crossroads of doubt and distraction, help me pause and seek Your ancient paths. Teach me to trust the good way You have laid out through Your Word and Your Son. Forgive me for the times I have chased after new ideas while neglecting Your timeless truth. Give me courage to walk faithfully in Your way and find the rest You promise. Keep my heart steady and my mind clear in a world of confusion, so that my life may reflect Your eternal truth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
