Scripture Focus
“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints.” – Ephesians 1:18
Devotional Thought
There’s a difference between knowing about God and truly KNOWING Him. Paul prayed that believers wouldn’t just gain mental facts but would have their hearts enlightened to grasp spiritual truth. Head knowledge can inform us, but only the Spirit can transform us.
Too often, we approach God’s Word with our natural understanding, forgetting that spiritual truth requires the Spirit’s guidance. The flesh cannot comprehend what only the Spirit can reveal (1 Corinthians 2:14). This is why prayer and confession must accompany our reading of Scripture. When we humble ourselves before God, the Spirit opens our eyes, deepens our understanding, and strengthens our inner being.
To know God is more than comprehension—it’s communion. It’s experiencing His love, His presence, and His power in a way that shapes how we live.
Reflection Questions
1. Do I approach Bible reading as a task to complete or as an invitation to truly know God?
2. How often do I pause to pray for the Spirit’s guidance before opening Scripture?
3. In what ways have I experienced the difference between head knowledge and heart knowledge of God?
4. What sin or distraction might I need to confess today so that my heart can be fully open to His Word?
Closing Prayer
Father, thank You for giving me Your Word and Your Spirit. Forgive me for the times I’ve tried to understand spiritual truth in my own strength. Enlighten the eyes of my heart and help me to truly know You—not just in theory, but in experience. Strengthen me in my inner being so that Christ may live through me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
