“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.” – Matthew 11:28
Devotional Thought
God created us for both work and rest. Rest isn’t optional—it’s commanded. Yet many of us carry constant stress, sleepless nights, and racing thoughts because we try to control what was never ours to carry. True rest isn’t just physical; it’s a spiritual state of trusting God with the details of our lives.
When we choose to rest in Him, we exchange worry for peace, control for trust, and anxiety for His presence. Jesus invites us to lay our burdens down—not so we can do nothing, but so that in all we do, our hearts remain at ease in Him.
Reflection Questions
1. What worries keep you awake at night, and why is it hard to let them go?
2. Do you view rest as a command from God, or just as something optional?
3. How can you practice trusting God with the things you cannot control today?
4. What would it look like for you to live in a state of rest even while working?
Closing Prayer
Father, thank You for calling me into Your rest. Forgive me for holding on to worries and trying to control what only You can handle. Teach me to trust You with both today and tomorrow. Help me to lay down my burdens, to rest in Your presence, and to walk in Your peace. Tonight, may I sleep with a calm heart, knowing You are in control. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
