What Is God’s Will for Me?

Scripture Reading:

“For this is the will of God, your sanctification.” – 1 Thessalonians 4:3a

Devotional Thought:

When we ask, “What is God’s will for my life?”, we often think in terms of specific circumstances—career paths, relationships, locations, or possessions. These are not unimportant, but they are not the heart of God’s will for us.

According to Scripture, God’s primary concern is who we are becoming. His will is that we be sanctified—set apart for Him, growing in holiness, and reflecting the character of Christ in everyday life. The details matter, but they matter most when they flow out of a heart transformed by God’s Spirit.

Think about it: God is more concerned with the way you speak to a stranger than the zip code you live in. He is more interested in the integrity you show at work than the title you hold. He cares more about the quality of your marriage than the Pinterest-worthy wedding that began it.

If we focus first on becoming the kind of people God wants us to be—humble, loving, patient, holy—the rest of life’s decisions will naturally align with His purposes. The real question is not “What should I do?” but “Who am I becoming?”

Reflection Questions:

1. When I think about God’s will, do I focus more on circumstances or on character?

2. How is God currently shaping me to be more like Christ in my daily life?

3. Are there areas where I’ve resisted His shaping because I prefer my own plans?

4. How might my everyday choices look different if my main goal was holiness?

Closing Prayer: Father, thank You for revealing that Your will for me begins with who I am, not just what I do. Forgive me for obsessing over the details of life while neglecting the deeper work of becoming more like Jesus. Shape my character, purify my heart, and teach me to value holiness over comfort. May every decision I make reflect a life surrendered to You. Amen.
