Direct Access to the Throne

Scripture Reading: Hebrews 4:14–16

14 Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Devotional Thought:

It’s easy to slip into the mindset that we need a pastor or some “spiritual heavyweight” to speak to God on our behalf. While the prayers of others are valuable, we must remember a vital truth—every believer has direct access to God through Jesus Christ.

Jesus is not a distant figure who merely represents us—He is our Great High Priest. He knows our weaknesses because He lived as we do, facing temptation yet never sinning. This makes Him uniquely qualified to represent us before the Father. He is both our advocate and our bridge, perfectly connecting our human need to God’s divine provision.

In the Old Covenant, priests had to first deal with their own sins before they could represent the people. But Jesus, perfect and sinless, intercedes for us without hindrance. He not only hears our words—He knows our hearts.

So, when you face fear, need, or uncertainty, you don’t have to wait for someone else to pray for you. You can boldly (not arrogantly) approach the throne of grace, knowing your High Priest is already there, speaking on your behalf.

Thought-Provoking Questions:

1. When was the last time you hesitated to bring something to God, thinking someone else could pray “better” for you?

2. How does knowing Jesus personally understands your struggles change the way you approach prayer?

3. What would “boldly approaching the throne of grace” look like in your daily life?

4. Is there an area where you’ve been relying on others’ prayers instead of going to God directly?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for being my Great High Priest, for knowing my weaknesses and loving me anyway. Forgive me for the times I’ve doubted my access to You or relied on others to do what You’ve invited me to do—come directly to You. Give me the confidence to approach the throne of grace, trusting that You intercede for me perfectly. Help me bring my needs, fears, and hopes straight to the Father, resting in Your love. Amen.
