Six Words that Shape Our Prayer Life

Scripture Reading: Matthew 6:5–13

Devotional Thought:

Jesus didn’t just tell His disciples to pray—He showed them how. In the Lord’s Prayer, we see six powerful truths that can guide our time with God:

1. Preparation – Come to God with a sincere heart, not for show. Close the door, shut out distractions, and be real with Him.

2. Praise – Begin with worship. Call Him Abba—your loving Father—and honor His holy name.

3. Priorities – Pray for God’s will before your own. Align your heart with His kingdom purposes.

4. Provision – Ask for your daily needs, trusting Him one day at a time.

5. Pardon – Seek His forgiveness and extend forgiveness to others.

6. Protection – Acknowledge your need for His guidance and shielding from temptation.

When these six words—Preparation, Praise, Priorities, Provision, Pardon, Protection—become the rhythm of our prayer life, we move from routine recitation to intimate conversation with the living God.

Reflection Questions:

1. Which of these six areas is most natural for you in prayer? Which is most challenging?

2. How can you better prepare your heart before coming to God in prayer?

3. In what ways do you need to realign your priorities with God’s will today?

4. Is there someone you need to forgive before you can fully experience God’s peace?

Prayer:

Father, thank You for teaching me how to pray. Help me come before You with honesty and humility. I praise Your holy name and submit my will to Yours. Provide for my needs today, forgive my sins, and help me forgive others. Protect me from temptation and guide me in Your truth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
