The Spirit or the Mind?
Scripture Reading:
“For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God.” — 1 Corinthians 2:10
Devotional Thought
It’s possible to know the Bible well — and still miss the heart of God. Many of us have met people with impressive Scripture knowledge but little evidence of the fruit of the Spirit. Sometimes, if we’re honest, we’ve been that person.
Paul reminds us that true spiritual understanding doesn’t come through human intellect alone, but through the Holy Spirit. Bible reading without prayer can become an exercise in self-reliance, leading to spiritual dryness or even pride.
Jesus said, “God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in Spirit and in truth” (John 4:24). Truth is found in God’s Word, but Spirit-led worship and living require daily dependence on Him. Without the Spirit, knowledge becomes empty religion; with Him, it becomes life and transformation.
Today, don’t just read the Word — invite the Author into the conversation.

2. What’s the difference between knowing about God and truly knowing Him?
3. How can prayer and Scripture work together in your daily walk instead of one replacing the other?
4. What steps can you take to be more Spirit-led in your Bible reading this week?
5. How might your life look different if you sought understanding with the Spirit instead of through intellect alone?
Prayer
Father, thank You for giving me Your Word and Your Spirit. Guard me from pride that comes from knowledge without love. Teach me to read with humility, to pray with sincerity, and to walk daily in step with You. Amen.
